Welcome to the

Laurel Fire Co. #1

Laurel Fire Co was organized in Cementon after the turn of the century on November 13, 1901. Sixteen men gathered at the time to found an organization which would protect and safeguard the property of lives in Cementon, and aid in the promoting the welfare and growth of the community.

The first quarters were in the Laurel Hotel, at Second and Main Streets, Cementon.  The first fire-fighting equipment was a 1902 Hand-Hose Carriage, and a 1911 American La France truck, which was the first motorized fire-fighting equipment in the company.

In 1940, the fire company obtained a Diamond T Fire Truck.

In 1958, the home and property next to the fire company was purchased for future expansion and the fire company also received a American La France truck.

The fire company made further improvements in 1988, by renovating the front engine bay and building a training room and sleeping quarters.

In the summer of 2000, the firemen of the Laurel Fire Co #1 took it upon themselves to demolish the two story house next door to the fire company in preparation for a new building. The building houses a new 2001 KME Rescue Pumper purchased by Whitehall Township.

Training is weekly on a Monday night at 6:30 pm at the Fire Station.  Monthly company meeting is 4th Monday at 7:30pm.
